Mind the {Diaper} Gap: The White House Answers the Call to Make Diapers More Accessible

Last week I found myself at the drugstore excited because I had hit the diaper lottery! Not only were my Pampers Swaddlers on sale, but I also had a $1.50 coupon which gave me more savings. Dakota is growing like a weed so I have stopped buying diapers in bulk, which cuts into my savings drastically; now, I often find myself comparative shopping, clipping coupons, and looking for diaper deals where I can.  Fortunately, I can afford diapers; however, nearly 1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers for their babies. Lacking transportation, the financial means to buy in bulk and the online access necessary to join subscription services, many low income families pay 14% of their income for diapers alone.

In an effort to decrease the disparity, last week President Obama launched an initiative to partner with manufacturing companies, e-commerce start-ups and a non-profits that will work together to make diapers more accessible and affordable for everyone.

To find out more about the Diaper Divide and learn what your favorite diaper companies are doing to bridge the gap, head over to WH.gov and use #DiaperGap to spread awareness.
