Milestone Alert: Dakota’s 6-month Checkup

Dakota had a successful 6 month check-up. She is now 21 pounds and 29.5 inches. Some of our concerns going into the appointment were constipation, introducing solids, eczema and teething. Some of things we learned were:

  • *Babies who drink breast milk can go days without pooping.  No need to be concerned that she is not pooping daily unless she is consistently constipated.”
  • *We should only fully bathe Dakota every three days, We had been bathing her twice a day which was the cause for her skin being so dry and the eczema patches.  Our doctor recommended Aquaphor or Aveeno baby products to clear up her dry spots.  We also questioned whether Dakota’s Shea Moisture hair products could be aggravating her eczema and while he does recommend less fragrant products as possible, he does not think the product is harmful to her skin. (Great because I love her Shea Moisture products).
  • *Dakota is ready to try new solid food outside of her rice cereal.  It was suggested that we start with green foods, next yellow foods and lastly fruits. It is often more difficult to get a baby to take to green foods once they grow fond of fruits.  Also when introducing solids we should watch for allergic reactions.
  • *Though he does not recommend it, it is okay for Dakota to lick on the lollipops my husband has been sneaking her (grrrrrrr).  My doctor warned children can quickly become addicted to sugar and will not want to eat their food.
  • *No signs of teeth yet, but they will come!

After seeing Dakota was independently sitting up, babbling and a physical exam, it was now vaccine time for the {shots, shots, shots, shots, shots.}  I was thankful my husband was here this time to hold her down and comfort her as she received four shots to her legs (DTaP, Polio, Hib and PCV-13).  Dakota was feisty and fought us threw the entire process, however, she still ended up with two Band-aids on her chunky thighs and tons of pictures for my scrap book!

Dakota is getting so big. I STILL can’t wait to meet her. Auntie Jill is very much in love with Dakota. I have lots of pictures of her on my refrigerator.
